ABOUT: Three talented singers, desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom, navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success.

10 WORDS REVIEW: Catchy music, great story-line but it is way too stereotypical.

i looked forward to STAR to the way I look forward to New Years Eve – with anticipation and I have to say – I was not impressed.

I mean, it was cool and all – I loved the music (a little) and it had some really strong characters (especially QUEEN LATIFAH) – BUT that was the exactly problem – it should’nt just be some, ALL CHARACTERS SHOULD BE STRONG!

STAR doesn’t start off great, and relies heavily on the highly stereotyped characters. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with a series having diverse characters, but this feels way too forced.

I didn’t want to compare it to Empire, but common, even Empire started off BETTER!

Lets just hope the series finds its purpose before its too late.

ABOUT: Set in the late 1970s, when New York was at the brink of bankruptcy and disco was dying out, the rise of hip-hop is told through the lives, art, music and dance of a group of young people in the South Bronx.

FEW WORDS REVIEW: a highly contagious series with a great story-line and even better music.

My first thoughta Netflix show about the Bronx in the 1970’s, well this is gonna be some racy bullcrap!

My thought after watching –

This series is completely amazing – I mean, it totally went beyond my expectations.

There is enough drama to keep you at the edge of your seats, mature content for adult viewers and of course, the one thing i look for when watching something on screen;

The ‘OMG I’m falling in love with this show’ moments!

And this would not have been possible if not for the amazing cast – Justice and Herizen especially.

‘The Get Down’ has become one of my favourite binge-worthy shows this year, right behind OITNB and DareDevil – its real, its raw, its sexy, its funny, its got scenes that feel almost too real (like you just time-travelled to the past), the characters look so free in their costumes and its got music that will get you grooving like there is no tomorrow.

Then there’s the relatable themes in the series – child abuse, teenage love, drugs, graffiti, sexuality, rebellion and politics.

I’m not gonna lie, ‘The Get Down’ could get a little childish sometimes; and it could also get freaking REAL some other times..

I guess it all depends on how you like your shows…

The Legend Of TARZAN (Movie Review)

tarzan.jpg

10-WORD REVIEW: it was its own version of badass, but kinda mediocre.

I wont lie, I was heavily impressed with how well the essence of Tarzan was captured with this movie; but I also had two or so problems with it. One being the plot line – which could have been better and second being the CGI – it was not as great as ‘Jungle Book’ (sorry, I’m comparing movies now).

Now, to the acting – I was very shocked at how slick and dapper Tarzan(Alexander) could be in one scene, and then a complete animal in another. It was EPIC! Margot Robbie was a sweetheart, and believe me when I say I’ve seen her on the other side of the scale, and its not as pretty (hello, suicide squad lovers!). Her chemistry with Alexander and the other cast members was on fleek. Samuel L Jackson was good too.

2016 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS (Review)

Okay so guess what went down last night…

Only the awesomest award show in the history of teens and young adults!!!

Thats right! I’m talking about the 2016 FOX TEEN’S Choice Awards;

Hosted by none other than ‘Rocky Horrors’ very own Victoria Justice & John Cena.

As expected, the award show was one full of glam and swag.

Top contenders included stars from Pretty Little Liars and Jane the Virgin, franchises like Divergent and The Maze Runner, radio-dominating pop stars like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Zayn Malik, and breakout favourites like Jacob Tremblay.

But I think the Highlight of the whole event was the presentation of the first ever Decade Award to ‘Cant stop the feeling’ singer – Justin Timberlake!

Dont believe me, here’s a video containing the singers sppech – courtesy of Clevver News…

His speech had me thinking evuls.. good evulsss! *wink wink*

And lets just say the event was definitely not lacking in performances; ranging from Serayah, to FloRida and Charlie Puth, and even more interesting – Jason Derulo and his amazing medley!!!

*

Of course this review wouldn’t be complete without me saying what I thought about Cena and Justices’ role as Hosts…

Two words – ABSOLUTE CHEMISTRY!

TCA 2016 RATING – 9.1/10

THE ORIGIN OF LOVE – MIKA (Music Video Review) #MikaWeek

ABOUT: The music video is more or less a film by Mika & Cristián Jiménez. Shot in Santiago, Chile and follows the life of a young woman who is made to forget the man she loves, but in the end – love proves to be stronger..

It contains some nudity and scenes that viewers may find offensive and is not suitable for under 18s.

YEAR: 2012

ALBUM: The origin of love

DIRECTOR: Cristian Jimenez

STARRING: Damiela Ramirez & Jorge Arecheta

REVIEW:

At first, when I first noticed this video was 18+, I became instantly sceptical – probably another video about naked women dancing – or worse, naked dudes dancing… But then it turned out to be this amazingly shot love story and I smiled all the way through the thing.

The message of the video is clear, and i think it sheds light on the issue of conversion therapy that most societies have begun to adopt. Saying that no matter how much you try to change someone, the real them is still inside somewhere and will eventually come out some way.

Sure, its not colourful and lively like most of Mika’s music videos, but believe me when I tell you that you will not regret watching this art work.

Here’s what the Director had to say about it;

It’s an urban, very contemporary piece, with a bit of humour and touches of a fairy tale feel.

CELEBRATE – MIKA ft. Pharrell (Music Video Review) #MikaWeek

ABOUT: The video shows Mika singing and dancing, as he tries to write a song but keeps tearing off the pages in his lyric book. It also features other regular people celebrating life.

YEAR: 2012

ALBUM: The origin of love

ARTISTS: Pharrell and MIKA

REVIEW:

There’s nothing too special about this music video, but the song in itself is pretty catchy.

Its a colourful and lively  presentation that’s for sure.

And lets not forget how flawless Mika looks, especially in the white top.  #JustSaying

WE ARE GOLDEN – MIKA (Music Video Review) #MikaWeek

ABOUT: The video features Mika dancing around a bedroom in his underwear as a “celebration of all the years Mika spent dancing around his bedroom as a teenager.”

ALBUM: The boy who knew too much

YEAR: 2009

DIRECTOR:  Jonas Åkerlund.

REVIEW:

While this video will probably appear a bit unsettling to some people; considering the amount of skin Mika showed us #NotComplaining; I still believe this is one of Mika’s most original music videos; and I’m not just saying that because its my jam.

The setting is relatable and just messy enough to actually be considered attractive.

Then again, that’s pretty much the story for most of Mika’s music videos…

A beautiful performance for an equally beautiful artist.

HURT Remix – Mika (Music Video Review)

RELEASE DATE: Feb 5, 2016.

DIRECTOR: Ivan Cotroneo

ALBUM: No place in heaven

ARTIST: Mika

FEATURING: Mika, Rimau Grillo Ritzberger, Valentina Romani, Leonardo Pazzagli
Fotografia: Luca Bigazzi

SETTING: Highschool

THEME: Bullying, Friendship.

MIK

REVIEW: This is a very excitingly engaging music video, it doesnt take attention away from the music or the lyrics, if anything – it amplifies the significance.

The whole ‘young-adult’ vibe it gives off is beautiful, and the theme is a very concerete and mature one.
