Now here’s what i thought about OKAFOR’S LAW, but first
*
So when i first heard Omoni Oboli had something cooking, i wont lie; i could not have been less interested. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan, not a huge fan – but a fan nonetheless! Before i even knew what the movie was going to be about, a part of me kept thinking it would flop, disappoint or worse.
The first thing i could have said made me ‘think’ Okafors Law had potential was the casting. I’m a huge Blossom fan, RMD is basically my daddy and Toyin Aimakhu – Oh My Gawd!
But then the trailer came out and i was like ‘Oh Great! Another movie about stupid young guys’ yaaaaaaawn
And to add salt on top the garri that was already tasting sour, as the premiere date drew close; they (Omoni) began to have copyright issues; apparantely some ‘rando’ claimed it was his idea, but Omoni swore it was solely hers and the court actually halted the viewing of the movie #TensionsRising … I mean this news basically shook the whole internet!
At this point i was like ‘I’m Done with NOLLYWOOD’. But then i began to ask myself. “But wait oh! Wetin dey dis feem sef? sotey dem wan fight ontop am! Na so e good reesh?”
NB: I dont really speak pidgin inwardly. It was just for effect!
It was then i realized i wanted to see this movie!
Anyhow sha, they settled the matter within a few days and as planned, Okafors Law started showing in Cinemas on March 31st.

Well, SURPRISE! SURPRISE! I still didnt go to watch it.
What? i have a life you know…….
Anyway, it wasnt until i was deep in conversation with this new friend i made who is basically obsessed with Nollywood and filmmaking in general, that i realised what i was missing. I mean he basically praised every single aspect; from the acting, directing, all the way to the cinematography!
I NEEDED to see this movie!
After this conversation I would have been a fool not to!
So today, this afternoon precisely, i did what i needed to do and transported myself straight to the Cinema House; bought a ticket for Okafors Law at 1:50pm – grabbed my popcorn and fanta (i loooove fanta!) and headed straight in.
*
THE BEGINNING
So firstly i love how quick the story developed; they didn’t waste time, beat around the bush or anything; they began with exactly what the movie was about – Okafors Law. The character introductions were on point; and don’t get me started on the first sex scene. Oh my damn! Nollywoooooooooood!
THE MIDDLE
There was enough here to keep the audience glued to their seats; me included. The situations that unfolded were hilarious AF!
THE END
Well, i wont say it was an ending i expected or liked that much. But i guess they had their reasons for making the decisions they did. Either way, the ending was still okay.

THE STORY
Chuks, a successful young man decides to prove to his friends with a bet that Okafor’s Law exists; a law that states that once a man has had sex with a woman, he can have her again at anytime. But choas is the word, when things do not go according to plan.
Beautiful! Thats one word I’ll use to describe how i feel about the concept of the movie ‘Okafors Law’. Its the most original thing I’ve seen in Nollywood since ‘The Arbitration’.
Nothing felt ‘de ja vu – ish’ and i actually enjoyed each passing second. You almost never see anything coming. But like i said before, the end! Tsk tsk tsk!
THE THEME
So there were definitely numerous themes in this movie, but i think the highlights were ‘love’ and ‘prosmiscuity’; two relevant issues in todays generation. So definitely a wise choice!

THE ACTING
Ammmaaaaaazing. So I’ll just list the five actors in the movie that did it for me, from best to almost-best!
1. GABRIEL AFOLAYAN (Baptist): I swear, this guy was the life of the movie! The comic relief that ended up almost being a scene stealer! Plenty dab offerings to this amazing actor and his talented beards.
2. TOYIN AIMAKHU (Tomi): I will admit at first i didnt like her calm and classy character in the movie, it felt a bit forced if you ask me. But as expected, she let her true Yoruba side come out; and trust me – it was LIT!
3. BLOSSOM CHUKWUJEKWU (Chuks): This guy is just too good! Like, they could not have found a better person for the role of ‘Terminator’ (you have to watch to understand)
4. RMD (Mr. Omene): Richard Mofe Damijo is just a god! I mean, how can someone be so good at what he does, and do it so effortlessly? Damn!
5. OMONI OBOLI (Ejiro): Sure at first it almost seemed like there was nothing really special about this Ejiro, but then she showed us a side of her thats not exactly what we’re used to. And i applaud such versatility.

PRODUCTION AND POST-PRODUCTION
All the way from the directing, to the wardrobe, to the setting, down to the tasking job of editing; i’m impressed! Even more than impressed, I’m blown away!

After watching The Wedding Party last year December and finding a new lover in Kemi Adetiba; i almost thought nothing could beat that movie or come close. Well, I’m writing today to say i stand corrected; Okafors Law did not beat the wedding party for me, but it came pretty close.
SCORE – 7.9/10
If you haven’t watched it, i highly recommend.
Its funny AF
Its sweet
and its sexy!
What else is there?
And remember the beginning of this review when i said I’m not a huge fan of Omoni Oboli? Well, after this watching this movie – I think its safe to say – SHE’S BAE!
