My first thought – a Netflix show about the Bronx in the 1970’s, well this is gonna be some racy bullcrap!

My thought after watching –

This series is completely amazing – I mean, it totally went beyond my expectations.

There is enough drama to keep you at the edge of your seats, mature content for adult viewers and of course, the one thing i look for when watching something on screen;

The ‘OMG I’m falling in love with this show’ moments!

And this would not have been possible if not for the amazing cast – Justice and Herizen especially.

‘The Get Down’ has become one of my favourite binge-worthy shows this year, right behind OITNB and DareDevil – its real, its raw, its sexy, its funny, its got scenes that feel almost too real (like you just time-travelled to the past), the characters look so free in their costumes and its got music that will get you grooving like there is no tomorrow.

Then there’s the relatable themes in the series – child abuse, teenage love, drugs, graffiti, sexuality, rebellion and politics.

I’m not gonna lie, ‘The Get Down’ could get a little childish sometimes; and it could also get freaking REAL some other times..

I guess it all depends on how you like your shows…

 

RATING – 8.0/10

What about DEAD OF SUMMER?

REVIEW: Its funny, its pleasing to the eyes and the casting is perfect. But it does not pull off its genre too well. For me, this series would be a lot better if it wasn’t horror. Its got all it takes to be a fun loving camp drama – but what do I know?

She does this whilst maintaining a job as the assistant of a difficult and powerful journalist – Cat Grant.

100-WORD REVIEW:

Firstly, a round of applause for Melissa Benoist and her incredible portrayal of the DC Comic superhero – above average!

This show is one with obvious potential, if only it can be less predictable once in a while. Despite what everyone is saying, the fact that James Olsen was turned into a tall-black guy is not all that terrible… Awkward – YES!

The topic of feminism on the show is subtle, which I consider appropriate. And let’s not forget the BITCHY/INCREDIBLE Cat Grant!

Supergirl is nowhere near perfect but it’s still one of the best hero shows on Television today…

Archer is one of the few adult-animations that have managed to stay on TV for this (2009 – present) long, which should say a lot about how much people like the show.

I was going to go over the top and lie about my true feelings for this show; calling it awesome and a total success (because I’m a huge fan of one of its leads – MIRANDA COSGROVE), but after watching the first few episodes, I gotta say – this show does not make a good first impression.

Sure, some of the characters (especially Warburton; who acts as the father) are incredible in portraying their roles, a lot of the jokes seem forced, and the plot runs a little too fast.

 

But hey, at least the lines (Especially Warburton’s) are pure comedy GOLD

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is by far one of the best prime-time musicals on Television today (not that there are that many to chose from); its story-lines may sometime feel and be a bit exaggerated and unbelievable, but this is usually unseen thanks to the loveable characters and their never-ending humour.

The music in the series also comes to play; its a combination of modern, classic and Broadway, so it appeals to almost everyone.

But I’ll say this, if you have no patience for annoying main characters doing equally annoying things on TV, I suggest you steer clear of this show..

Rip Hunter: a time-travelling rogue, makes it his mission to assemble a group of rag tag villians and heroes, in hopes of using them to prevent what could become an apocalypse, and probably the destruction of time itself.

 

REVIEW:

Legends Of Tomorrow shows signs of becoming one of the greatest crime-fighting squad TV Shows in all of history; the back-story is completely solid; and I’m not just saying that because it’s based off of characters in two of the greatest Crime-Fighting shows on TV (Arrow & The Flash); although that won’t be a bad defence.

The show brings together the concept of teamwork and second chances together, in a way no other show has managed to pull off.

Unfortunately, this is not all it takes for a television show to be successful, L.O.T lacks believable dialogue, the plot is a bit cheesy especially for a show of its genre and it doesn’t use its time-travel premise to the full effect.

It’s almost PERFECT! But it’s NOT!

My apologies for my unannounced absence; I have really missed you guys these past few weeks. In that time though, a shitload of things have happened. A lot of shows went on hiatus, and new shows for the New Year were announced. Award shows announced their nominations, and of course I have a lot to say about that. But seeing as it’s the end of the year, I’d like to also celebrate what has been a wonderful year in TV and Movies. This will be split in two sections, TV and Movies. So let’s dig in!
