THE ORIGIN OF LOVE – MIKA (Music Video Review) #MikaWeek

ABOUT: The music video is more or less a film by Mika & Cristián Jiménez. Shot in Santiago, Chile and follows the life of a young woman who is made to forget the man she loves, but in the end – love proves to be stronger..

It contains some nudity and scenes that viewers may find offensive and is not suitable for under 18s.

YEAR: 2012

ALBUM: The origin of love

DIRECTOR: Cristian Jimenez

STARRING: Damiela Ramirez & Jorge Arecheta

REVIEW:

At first, when I first noticed this video was 18+, I became instantly sceptical – probably another video about naked women dancing – or worse, naked dudes dancing… But then it turned out to be this amazingly shot love story and I smiled all the way through the thing.

The message of the video is clear, and i think it sheds light on the issue of conversion therapy that most societies have begun to adopt. Saying that no matter how much you try to change someone, the real them is still inside somewhere and will eventually come out some way.

Sure, its not colourful and lively like most of Mika’s music videos, but believe me when I tell you that you will not regret watching this art work.

Here’s what the Director had to say about it;

It’s an urban, very contemporary piece, with a bit of humour and touches of a fairy tale feel.

CELEBRATE – MIKA ft. Pharrell (Music Video Review) #MikaWeek

ABOUT: The video shows Mika singing and dancing, as he tries to write a song but keeps tearing off the pages in his lyric book. It also features other regular people celebrating life.

YEAR: 2012

ALBUM: The origin of love

ARTISTS: Pharrell and MIKA

REVIEW:

There’s nothing too special about this music video, but the song in itself is pretty catchy.

Its a colourful and lively  presentation that’s for sure.

And lets not forget how flawless Mika looks, especially in the white top.  #JustSaying

WE ARE GOLDEN – MIKA (Music Video Review) #MikaWeek

ABOUT: The video features Mika dancing around a bedroom in his underwear as a “celebration of all the years Mika spent dancing around his bedroom as a teenager.”

ALBUM: The boy who knew too much

YEAR: 2009

DIRECTOR:  Jonas Åkerlund.

REVIEW:

While this video will probably appear a bit unsettling to some people; considering the amount of skin Mika showed us #NotComplaining; I still believe this is one of Mika’s most original music videos; and I’m not just saying that because its my jam.

The setting is relatable and just messy enough to actually be considered attractive.

Then again, that’s pretty much the story for most of Mika’s music videos…

A beautiful performance for an equally beautiful artist.

MIK

REVIEW: This is a very excitingly engaging music video, it doesnt take attention away from the music or the lyrics, if anything – it amplifies the significance.

The whole ‘young-adult’ vibe it gives off is beautiful, and the theme is a very concerete and mature one.

RELEASE DATE: July 31, 2015.

ALBUM: No place in heaven

ARTIST: MIKA

SETTING: The woods, hills, mountain tops and sea. (Sicily)

REVIEW: Mika’s pursuit for happiness in the video is beautiful, the nature theme is great, but its a lot uneventful. That said, not all music videos have to be elaborate.

GOOD GUYS – MIKA (MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW) #MIKAweek

RELEASE DATE: May 25, 2015.

ALBUM: No place in heaven

ARTIST: MIKA

THEME: LGBT heroes and Dreams.

SETTING: A large empty hall.

REVIEW: Besides the fact that this song is a very powerful and effective song with stellar lyrics, the music video proves to be even better with its symbolic movements (i refuse to call it dance) and colorfulness.

TALK ABOUT YOU – MIKA (Music Video Review) #MIKAweek

RELEASE DATE: May 25, 2015.

DIRECTOR: KT Auleta.

ALBUM: No place in Heaven

ARTIST: MIKA

THEME: Fun!

SETTING: White background, and clourful props.

REVIEW: Firstly, can I just add how breathtaking I am by MIKA’s sense of style – the suits  he rocks in this video are beyond elegant. The video on its own was pretty playful and bright (as usual) but he was definitely the centre of attraction throughout the entire thing.

WE ARE YOUNG – MIKA vs. Red One (Music Video Review) #MIKAweek

YEAR: 2010

ALBUM: Kick-Ass: Music from the Motion Picture

ARTIST: Mika & Red One

STARRING: The cast of Kick Ass

ABOUT: The video for the single shows Mika as a helpless individual left in an alleyway after being mugged. He begins to sing and as he does, the words of empowerment in the lyrics and his finding of an issue of the “Kick-Ass” comic inspire him to run for the rooftops and wail the chorus to the sky, now dressed in a slightly more superhero version of his “original persona” outfit.

REVIEW:

This is a great video for an even greater song. Its almost too perfect for the movie and that’s not something you see all the time..Its probably because –

BLAME IT ON THE GIRLS – MIKA (Music Video Review) #MIKAweek

YEAR: 2009

ALBUM: The Boy Who Knew Too Much

DIRECTOR: Nez Khammal.

ARTIST: MIKA

ABOUT: The video is filmed in a studio like setting, and features female dancers dressed in half a tuxedo and half an orange dress dancing while Mika sings and dances also.

REVIEW:

This is not only an artistic video, but also very original. It may not have a lot going for it in the aspect of correlation with the lyrics, but its still attractive and as usual, the talented Mika remains the center of attraction with his unique style and incredibly white teeth.
